Using Absolute Coordinates
When entering a point's coordinates, you can specify them in absolute or relative coordinates. Absolute coordinates are relative to the working coordinate system's origin (0, 0, 0). This is the default setting for the first point you select after clicking a drawing command. Relative coordinates are relative to the reference point, or the previously selected point, represented by a small coordinate system on the user interface.
To enter a point's absolute coordinates:
- Click the desired drawing command.
- Select Absolute from the Absolute/Relative drop-down menu on the status bar.
- Specify the point's coordinates in one of the following ways:
- Click the point.
- Type the point's coordinates in the appropriate boxes on the status bar.
Note: When drawing objects
other than polylines and helices, by default, the second point you select
is relative to the first point; Relative
is automatically selected in the Absolute/Relative
drop-down menu in the status bar. Be sure to select Absolute from the Absolute/Relative
drop-down menu in the status bar if you want the second point to be relative
to the working coordinate system
