Zooming and Panning the Layout View

Complete the steps in the following subsections to magnify (zoom in) or shrink (zoom out) the contents in the view window, or on a rectangular area in the view window, and pan (scroll) the view in any direction.

Note:

While zooming and panning, the absolute size of the active design does not change.

Zoom In on Window Contents

  1. To magnify (zoom in on) the contents in the view window, do one of the following:

    1. From the View menu, select Zoom In.

    2. Right-click in the Layout Editor/Schematic Editor and select Zoom In.

    3. Press Ctrl + +.

  1. Repeat until the chosen magnification is achieved.

Zoom Out on Window Contents

  1. To shrink (zoom out on) the contents in the view window, do one of the following.

    1. From the View menu, select Zoom Out.

    2. Right-click in the Layout Editor/Schematic Editor and select Zoom Out.

    3. Press Ctrl-.

  1. Repeat the operation until the chosen magnification is achieved.

Zoom In on a Rectangular Area

  1. To magnify a specific rectangular area in the view window, do one of the following:

    1. From the View menu, select Zoom Area.

    2. Right-click in the Layout Editor/Schematic Editor and select Zoom Area.

  1. The cursor changes to a magnifying glass. Click+drag to draw a rectangle (or square) by selecting two diagonally opposite corners. This is the area where magnification is increased.
  2. Release the mouse button to magnify the area. The cursor returns to normal.

Zoom In/Out Using the Mouse Wheel

  1. Press Shift and spin the mouse wheel to zoom in/out at the current cursor position.

  2. Press ShiftAlt and spin the mouse wheel to zoom in/out more precisely.

Restoring a Previous Zoom View

After executing a zoom in or zoom out operation, you can return to the previous magnification by selecting Zoom Previous on the View drop-down menu or on the shortcut menu in the layout window.

Panning the View

To pan (scroll) the view in any direction, hold down Shift while clicking the mouse. The view is attached to the cursor. While holding down the Shift key and left mouse button, move the cursor to pan the view in any direction. Release the mouse button to end the panning operation.
