Snapping Vias in ECAD Xplorer
Via groups serve as an electrical connection between objects on different metal layers. Sometimes these objects and the via groups are misaligned by a small amount which can increase mesh complexity. Snapping via groups aligns these objects and via groups across layers.
To snap via groups within a design:
-
From the Simplify area of the Layout tab, click Settings to open the Geometry Simplification Settings window.

- From the Via Snapping area, select a Snapping Method:
- Snap by Area Factor – Via groups are snapped by a maximum area equal to the Tolerance times the surface area of the via group being snapped.
- Snap by Distance – Via groups are snapped by a maximum distance of the Tolerance.
- Enter a Tolerance.
- To delete vias that have no connectivity or have connectivity only to a single layer, enable Remove Dangling Vias.
- Click Apply.
- From the Via Snapping area, select a Snapping Method:
- Select the objects to be aligned.
- Click Snap Vias.
To align via groups on a specific layer, right-click on a layer in the Layers window and select Snap Vias.
