Adding Vertices to Edges in the Layout Editor

Add a new vertex to a line segment or polygon using the Alt key.

1. Select the object and the object handles become visible as squares on the object edges.
2. From the Edit menu, select Select Handles and the cursor becomes a square.
3. Hold down the Alt key. While holding down the Alt key, the cursor will take one of two shapes:

• While hovering over a polygon edge, the cursor becomes a diagonal line with a hollow circle to indicate the cursor is in a valid location to insert a vertex.

• While hovering anywhere else, the cursor becomes a diagonal line segment to indicate the cursor is not in a valid location to insert a vertex.

4. Click the point where you want the new vertex.
5. Repeat step 4 to insert additional vertices, as appropriate.
6. Release the Alt key and it becomes the square "Select Handles" cursor once again.
7. From the Edit menu, select Select Handle again to return the cursor to its original shape..
