Setting Global Layout Options
The following options are set in the Layout Editor area of the Tools > Options > General Options window.
No project or layout design needs to be open to change global options. However, changes to global options only affect new layout designs (i.e., navigating to Tools > Options > General Options to open the global Options window, and choosing on the options in the Layout Editor tab) . To configure options for existing designs, navigate to the Design Options window (i.e., from Layout, select Settings). Then choose options on the associated tabs, and click OK to save changes. All changes made in the Design Options window affect only the active design).
The following buttons control changes made to the global layout options:
- Reset From Global Defaults is used to change the settings of all the tabs to those of the current Global settings. The reset affects only the window contents.
- Reset From Installed Defaults is used to change the settings of all the tabs to those of the initial-install defaults. The reset affects only the window contents.
- OK saves the currents settings of all the tabs to the Global defaults registry. This action is not undoable and is not scriptable. A window appears to allow you to confirm the changes in the global options by clicking Yes.
- Cancel closes the window without affecting the Global default settings. (Clicking No on the confirmation window also closes all window without changing the settings.)
Both the global and local Layout Options windows have six tabs. The options in each area are much the same for both global and local settings. The differences are:
- Save as Global Defaults is present only for each of the local options tabs.
- Always Show Layer Merging window on the Other area is present only for global options.
- Fit to Contents on the Display area is present only for local options.
- The Set based on page extent button on the Advanced area is present only for local options.
Saving global defaults is not undoable. When global defaults are saved, HFSS immediately writes them to the registry , then uses these new default values for all subsequent applications. The only way to revert to previous global values is to once again modify the default values , then do another global save.
