Unlocking a GNOME Virtual Desktop

After launching a Linux virtual desktop that has GNOME Desktop installed, GNOME may go into sleep mode after a certain period of time, causing the desktop to become locked.

When the desktop is locked, you are prompted to enter the password for the superadmin user:

To obtain the password and unlock the virtual desktop:

  1. If necessary, minimize the virtual desktop window so that you can access your local desktop.
  2. On your local desktop, open a web browser and sign in to Ansys Gateway powered by AWS.
  3. Open the project space containing the Linux virtual desktop.
  4. Click the dropdown next to the Connect button and select SSH.
  5. Click Connect. Connection details are displayed. For example:
  6. Copy the Password value to your clipboard.
  7. Go back to the virtual desktop and paste the password into the Password field on the lock screen.
  8. Click Unlock.
Tip: To prevent the screen from locking again, you can disable Screen Lock.
