Note: Licensing for 2024 R2 and later versions of Ansys applications is configured globally on the Administration > License settings page. See Configuring License Settings for Ansys Applications. When creating a virtual desktop or autoscaling cluster, you can override the globally configured licensing settings with custom settings if desired.

Licensing for 2024 R1 versions of Ansys applications can be preconfigured on the Administration > Applications page using the instructions below. When creating a virtual desktop or HPC cluster (in a 24R1 project space), you can specify (or override) the licensing settings in the configuration of each 2024 R1 application that you select.

Administrators can preconfigure an application so that resource creators do not have to manually specify its settings during resource creation. Whether default application settings are configured or not, resource creators can specify (or override) application settings when creating a resource.

To globally configure an application:

  1. On the main toolbar, click to access the Administration page.

  2. In the navigation pane, select Applications. This page lists all applications available for installation on virtual desktops and clusters. (If you want to configure a cluster application, you can also find it on the Cluster packages page.)

  3. Locate the application to configure and click Edit in the application's table row.

  4. Specify the application's configuration settings. Settings vary depending on the application.

If you are specifying licensing settings for a 2024 R1 application, License Type options may include:

    • License Server. Traditional leased or purchased floating licenses are administered on a computer on your company's premises or on a virtual machine in Ansys Gateway powered by AWS. If selected, specify the IP address of the license server in the License Details field (for example, 10.0.12.34).

For the STK application, use the format port@hostname for standard configuration, or port@hostname,hostname,hostname for triad configuration. For example, you would enter 1055:server1 to use port 1055 with a license server with hostname ‘server1’.

    • Ansys Elastic Licensing. "Pay-per-use" licenses are accessed through a cloud-based license server managed by Ansys. If selected, enter your elastic license using the format <Cloud License Server ID>:<Cloud Server License PIN>.

    • User-based Subscription. (Discovery, SpaceClaim, and Speos only). You pay to use an application for a defined term (typically one year). Subscriptions are managed via the Ansys Account portal at https://myaccount.ansys.com and activated from the application itself.

    • LST License Server. (LS-DYNA only). LS-DYNA licenses are administered using LST License Manager. If selected, specify the IP address of the LST license server in the License Details field (for example, 10.0.12.34)

  5. Click Save to save the specified values.

Note: Application settings will be applied to applications on new resources only.
