Allowing or Preventing the Generation of Public IP Addresses for Virtual Machines

By default, when creating resources such as virtual desktops and clusters, the virtual machines that are deployed in your Virtual Network are issued both a private IP address and public IP address.

A private IP address enables direct communication between machines within a local network. A public IP address is an outward-facing IP address that can be accessed over the internet, allowing external machines to potentially access virtual machines deployed to your AWS virtual network.

Your company's IT security policy may require that you disable the generation of public IP addresses.

To allow or prevent the generation of public IP addresses:

  1. On the main toolbar, click to access the Administration page.

  2. In the navigation pane, select Tenant Settings.

  3. In the Advanced settings panel, set the Issue public IP addresses for virtual machines toggle.

When the generation of public IP addresses is disabled, newly created virtual machines will not display public IP addresses in their settings. Only private IP addresses will be displayed.

If you disable the generation of public IP addresses, additional configuration is required to provide internet access to virtual machines. See Configuring Internet Access for Virtual Machines Without Public IP Addresses.

Warning: When you switch this setting, all existing virtual machines created by Ansys Gateway powered by AWS will be permanently deleted.
