14.1. FMEA

Hybrid Failure Net

The VDA-AIAG guideline for FMEA introduces the concept of a hybrid failure net that distinguishes between primary effects without (or insufficient) diagnostics and mitigated effects as system response. This distinction is now available and can be modelled in the cause-effect chain.

MSR-FMEA Improvements

As one application of the hybrid failure net, the Monitoring and System Response (MSR) FMEA provides new columns for system response to model mitigated effects and automatically shows the most severe effect. In conjunction with this addition, the cornercase of M=1 for the Action Priority (AP) ranking has been changed. The severity of the mitigated system effect is then used in compliance with VDA-AIAG.

Part Numbers for MSR-XML

An addition was done in the MSR-XML to include the exchange of part numbers in the MSR-XML format for FMEA with third party FMEA tools.
