2.4. License Configuration

Ansys medini analyze is licensed under local node locked or network floating licenses.

  1. Run the medini analyze installer and follow the instructions.

  2. When you launch medini analyze the first time, the license preference dialog opens. If the license is not configured correctly, you get an error message.

Note that the license location settings are global for your user account or PC. They can be set using the environment variable ANSYSLMD_LICENSE_FILE.

  3. If no license is configured or an error occurred, you can click Change license settings in the upcoming dialog to provide the license that is valid for the version you are using.

  4. The application displays the license preferences. You must provide your license details.

  5. Ansys medini analyze has different license suites which bundle certain features: Pro, Premium, Cybersecurity Pro, Enterprise, Semiconductor Enterprise, and DC Configurator. The Connectivity Package can be used in conjunction with the Pro licenses. For more details about licenses, contact Ansys sales or our support team.

  6. If you have a node locked license, click Browse... to navigate to the license file and select it.

The license location appears in the License File text field.

  7. When using a floating license, you must provide the address of the license server. This is the machine where the license manager is running.

To enter the license information, click the Licensing Utility link to access the licensing tool and enter your information.

  8. After selecting a license file or adding your license information in the licensing utility, restart the tool.

The available license is checked automatically. A valid license is indicated by a green background in the corresponding cell. The expiration date (if any) and the end of the current maintenance period is shown in the respective columns. If the license has expired, it is highlighted in red.

Note:  The Connectivity Package is automatically checked if it is contained in a suite (from Premium on). If you use a Pro license, you can check or uncheck the Connectivity Package separately, depending on whether you want to use it (of course only if it is included in the given license).

  9. When you click the Apply button, the selected licenses are obtained from the server (or license file), i.e. the license suite that is checked in the Use column. The tool tries to retrieve the license and visualizes the result in the same column: a green cell indicates that the license is available and now used, whereas red indicates that it could not be retrieved (e.g. those which are blocked by another user or not available). White is only used for the dependent Connectivity Package.

  10. If your license server is configured with multiple different license suites, you may use the check boxes in the Use column to specify your preferred license. After clicking the Apply or Apply and Close button, the tool tries to obtain the licenses which are checked and to release the licenses which are unchecked.

This might be useful in case you want to use the DC Configurator license.

  11. After the license configuration is successfully completed, medini analyze is ready to run. If no license is obtained, the tool runs in read-only mode and projects can only be browsed.

You do not have to re-install medini analyze in the following cases:

  • When upgrading a trial license to the full license

  • When changing between license types

  • When adding licenses for new modules of medini analyze

To install a different license file or to modify the connection to the license server after the initial installation procedure, use the Preferences dialog. For more information, see Preferences.
