Declaring exemptions

You can declare exemptions for parts so that permitted uses of restricted substances are considered during compliance analysis.

Some compliance indicators, including EU RoHS, China RoHS, and ELV, allow exemptions for specific uses of restricted substances. Exemptions are declared at part level in the database using the RoHS 2 (EU) exemptions Attribute, and are taken into account when calculating compliance indicators in Product Compliance reports and BoM Analyzer (see Roll-up logic for an indicator with exemptions (RoHS, ELV)).

To declare an exemption for a part in MI Explore:
  1. Open the datasheet for the part in the Products and parts table.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Navigate to the Risk summary section, and select the applicable exemptions from the list in the RoHS 2 (EU) exemptions Attribute.
Important: During analysis, BoM Analyzer determines only whether the exemption Attribute is populated. It does not determine whether the declared exemption is valid. You are responsible for ensuring that declared exemptions are applicable to the substances and legislations concerned.
  4. Click Save.
